Website help, all that shows up is broken text!?

I started working on this website for a BMX clothing company. I was using Yahoo Site builder and well...it really wasn%26#039;t working for me. So I switched to Mozilla composer. I went to publish the main page (index.html) and it completely messed it up. I tried everything, re publishing it with yahoo, deleting all the files and re publishing it again. Nothing works and I really have no idea what to do. The website is www.downfallbmx.com The other parts of the website work still, it%26#039;s just the index that is crazy. Help would be much appreciated.

try reuploading the files(index.html) in ASCII mode, most if not all FTP client software have a setting where you can choose the uploading mode, for .html the correct mode is ASCII(usually in auto mode it works fine too)

Should the Builder of my building to install a Lightning Conductor after my building got hit by Ligh

I live in Nasik Maharashtra India. Nasik has a history of thunder-storms and Lightning Strikes in the start of pre-monsoons (first few rains of the season). Last month my building got hit by Lightning and the corner of the roof parapet wall was totally destroyed. In total 10 people (including 4 members of my family) of our building miraculously escaped death that day when there was a shower of rubble from the roof (6th floor) of the building.

Is there any way I / My building society can pressurise the builder and / or the town planner to erect a lightning arrestor on our building.

Our Building is of ground + 5 Floors is there any other security equipment required on such tall building. Is there any website where i can see the rules and regulations of buildings and safety procedures to be provided by the builder in case of fire, lightning or any other eventuality.

I think it%26#039;s up to the landlord, not the builder..if YOU own the property, then it%26#039;s YOUR responsibilty to install a lightning conductor .. but if you are renting, then you have a case to make sure the owner gets it sorted, otherwise you should get the town planner involved

You can get sergers for things like the PC and other plug ins. Or, make sure your insurance covers everything you own.

They pretty much know all the biulding codes for your area, and will usually answer you question at no charge. Most engineers can also help you(r) building or whoever the owner may be, get funding to install the protection needed.

I dont know if this helps but I noticed on site builder that everytime I I clean out my records like the temp files I have to reinstall site builder to get it to run so i can update my site anyway maybe the problem is you need to reinstall the program on your laptop also your webfiles are saved on the computer hardrive you used to build the site so maybe you need to transfer them to the laptop as well .

Honestly you get what you pay for. Website builder are not true html code and have limitations. You need to learn a programming language or pay a web designer.

The most important thing about creating a website is the design.

I had someone peruse my photography website the other day, and they told me that I needed more flash animations, more bells and whistles, and more polished transitions. Even people woo about the new flash technology; most of the time, viewers actually ignore it according to the research. That is why text ads is much more popular than graphic ads.

The main difference between old website (few years back then) and new website is that audience expect two way communication. With so many free widgets and web program on the Internet to use, you can easily achieve this without much effort. For example, blog your service and knowledge of photography, and people can respond you by giving comments.

I have been checking out Hostgator to host a wordpress blog or any website. I have checked into Yahoo as well as GoDaddy. I had GoDaddy at one time and could not figure it out for the life of me. I looked at the site builder on Hostgator and it was pretty user friendly, but I want to put google adsense and other affiliate links on my site. Can I even put java script or html on the site builders?

Firstly you create your page offline (not on the internet with frontpage with all the links so hyperlinking with just simple links lke home.html, also with frontpage you can add your jacvascript and ads ect... all while ur herer this is your setup stage. Secondly sign up with a free web host or paid one whichever your willing and then use thier CP upload featuere or use FTP to uplaod the files into that server. Make sure the main page is called index.html.

Then get the url that the free or paid webhost give you and type it in to ur URL and you should see yoru website

I would actually recommend against a flash intro. They look cool and make a site seem very professional but they are not great for search engines. When the spiders crawl the web looking to rank your website, they look at your keywords, site title, etc..

If instead they come to a page with flashes and music and no text with keywords, they get confused and move on. If you want your site to be ranked high up, I would avoid a flash page.

As for background images and such, you should be able to upload your own and set them.

Personally, I charge $30 per hour. I would think you could find a college student in your area who needs some extra cash to do this for you for less. If not, please consider contacting me. My site is below.

Other Replys:1. The home page is a bit too wide. I assume you have a large monitor. Even on my 17%26quot; monitor (res 1280x1024) horizontally it doesn%26#039;t fit completely. Try targeting a resolution of 1024x768 (a few people are still using 800x600). Simply put, check how it looks on a smaller monitor.

2. The brownish/gold font on the dark red background is a bit tiring on the eyes. Try a slightly lighter font.

3. There is no way to return to the welcome page

4. Try to stick with the same fonts and font size on your various pages. Also similar or logical layouts and colours will give your site a more consistent feel

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about how to transfer a website to a new domain? I don%26#039;t really know how to use MS Publisher, which I hear is the way to go.

I am fairly new to designing websites using the Yahoo and Homestead Site Builder Tools, so any help with this question will be essential.

I recently designed a site for a friend who decided they didn%26#039;t want to use Homestead as a web host for their domain and have thus signed up for another provider. However, they still wish to keep the website designed from their Homestead account but we need to transfer or upload all the web pages to their new hosting provider.

Any thoughts on how I could handle something like this would be lifesaving as it could eliminate a whole lot of headache for doing this type of thing for others in the future.

Once you already installed it on your computer, start it and then login to homestead using this program. On the left column of the program, browse a folder in your computer where you want all the webpages from homestead to be copied. To copy, just right click on the file from the right column of the program and then click download. Once you already copied everything. Disconnect your connection with homestead and start a new connection, this time you will connect through the new webhosting account. You will need the ftp username and ftp password from that hosting account. Once you are already connected, right click on the folders and webpages you downloaded which is in the left column of the program, and then click upload.

Next Step will be, to point your domain name to the new webhosting.

The easiest way to copy this is simply to copy all of the files as they exist on the current server to the new server, keeping the same directory structure. There is nothing special you need to do. Just move them like you would any other files. Of course, the new server has to be setup as a domain server just like the old server in order to act as a web server and if names are changing, depending on how you built the website, you may have to change links within those pages. All of these pages can then be opened up by any html editor and edited as necessary.

There is a program called Microsoft Publisher and front page you could use to create a website.

But such programs would create extra costs.

What about myspace?

Alot of presidental canidates have a myspace and it kind of gets their ideas out there and allows supporters to add them as a friend and leave comments of support or questions.

You are best to find a paid hosting account rather than using a free account. Free accounts are too limited in what you can do and if you are seriously wanting to build a business then you need full control of your website and the ability for it to grow with you. There are many accounts around that are not too expensive. I host my accounts at 3IX.com and they have a good range of features.

I would think that if you are making a picture/music video then look at programs such as Nero or Cyberlinks Power Producer. They won%26#039;t allow you to do the show online but you can assemble the program for DVD. I use powerproducer to do slide shows for Funerals, Weddings and Corporate events. it is simple to use and produces good results, and making a video only takes about an hour at most depending on content of course.

The biggest problem you face is getting the photos to you, you could have your customers email them to you as a zipped file (could be large email though) or you could set up an online photo album that they upload to and you just download them from there..... there is also setting up an FTP account on your hosting to put pics up there.

A good hosting account should come with features that will assist with this. Most have the Fantastico suite of add ons that I am sure has one or two programs that would assist you.

If you need a web page designer you can find a free one with plenty of features on my website listed in the sources box.... go to the free docs page and you can get it from there, you might find other things to help you as well.

I want to import my website from my desktop to my laptop. I can not do it with the instructions?

My desktop is where my yahoo.site builder is located. I am having trouble importing to my laptop. I go to import - sites, no file. When i try to open my already existing webpages on my GEOcities website i get the error: java.io.EOFException. I have tried to find information about this and all i find is end of file exception... but no info on how to correct it. I have the latest version of Java so I can not update it. I can change me site via HTML but i don%26#039;t know all the codes i need. Also i am using page builder.

In order to answer this, I would need to see some of the code, particularly the section that is reading/writing to an external file. It sounds to me like there is something missing in a loop structure, or a file or folder that is being read is blank. If you attempt to do something like

If you%26#039;re not familiar with html codes, you should start out with WYSIWYG kind of software. Your best bet would be Dreamweaver from Adobe. Besides being transparent between the both OSes, most of their products are the must in Graphics field. So any of your daughter%26#039;s works would be easily placed on the pages.

Since you have time on your hand, you can pick up the HTML skills as you go along by viewing html codes from your page in Dreamweaver.

IMO, it%26#039;s the fastest way to get your web pages going.

Well, the Mac comes with a web building program called iWeb... but you won%26#039;t be able to work on it with a Windows machine. Plus its pretty limiting.

The best way to build a site is to do it from scratch, using a text editor and previewing with a web browser. If you have the time, check out a book called %26quot;Stylin%26#039; with CSS.%26quot; It will teach you the basics on how to code using html and cascading style sheets.

This way, you will be able to work on your site from anywhere with an internet connection, and ftp program and a text editor. Its also very rewarding.

I have an alternative. If you have a high speed permanent internet connection, why not try an online website builder.

I have a website I%26#039;m building. I%26#039;ve paid for a domain name, and am using the Geocities site to load files onto my own site. I%26#039;ve managed to create an %26#039;INDEX%26#039; page for my website. I used microsoft word to create my page, and managed to load the page on my website. I can create as many pages as I want and load them onto the file manager.

My problem is I don%26#039;t know about subdomains, and creating links from one page to another. These tutorials seem to want me to use their page builder and their templates, which are all retarded. I just need help figuring out how to link all my own pages that I%26#039;ve built.
